Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to a technology that implements human intellectual abilities such as learning, problem solving, and pattern recognition by creating and applying algorithms to a computing environment.AI models can be used for automated designs of dental restorations and devices. Some commercial dental software programs powered by deep learning models have been introduced to the market to automate the majority of tasks and reduce workload of dental healthcare professionals while ensuring a consistent level of outcome quality, independent of the user’s experience. These systems mainly consist of some advanced deep learning algorithms such as a convolutional neural network (CNN)or a generative adversarial network (GAN),which are widely evaluated in the field of digital dentistry.

Recently, a web-based GAN-powered design software has been commercially introduced to the field of digital dentistry, especially to design dental crowns for both anterior and posterior regions. In this lecture, I would like to report the clinical feasibility of a GAN-based dental software for designing of anatomic contour crowns, comparing the outcomes from a conventional dentalsoftware without the support of deep learning. This lecture covers the outcome of the researchon the performance of a generative adversarial network (GAN) based dental software for designing dental crowns in terms of time efficiency and occlusal morphology. The future of AI application in Prosthodontics will also be discussed. This lecture would broaden the knowledge of current application of AI technology in Prosthodontics for the clinicians interested in the digital dentistry.

Dental implants in the esthetic zone has become a daily routine in our practice with the increased demand from patients to have them as cosmetically and functionally stable long term. To achieve these goals we have to understand the factors from bone and soft tissue reactions around the micro geometry of implants in the critical sub crestal area surrounding the implant abutment interface.

With a microsurgical approach in soft and hard tissue grafting around implants, using modern biologics and integrating 3D and CAD CAM technology for the proper planning and guiding of the implants treatment according to the best implant prosthodontic concepts ,we may achieve a cosmetic and a functional long term stability around implants in these zones and full arch cases.

Prof. Dr. Erdem Kılıç

Erdem Kilic has graduated from dental school of Hacettepe University in 2000 and obtained his PhD degree and residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery from Cumuriyet University in 2005. He worked as an academic staff in Oral and Maxillofacial Department of Erciyes University between 2005 and 2017. During this period in addition to his academic and clinical studies, he also held administrative positions such as chief of the department and vice dean. He served at Maxillofacial Department of St. Georges Hospital, London University as a visiting fellow for 4 months in 2010. He was entitled as an associate professor in 2012. He started to work as a faculty member in Bezmialem Vakıf University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2017. He became a professor at the same university in 2018. Since 2020 he is continuing his academic activities as a visiting professor at Bezmialem Vakıf University. Also he is performing his clinical activities in his own private dental clinic (KLC Dental Clinic). He is a member of national and international associations of oral and maxillofacial surgeons. His professional interests include 3D digital planning, augmentation of atrophic jaws and dentofacial deformities. The main problems reported with composite direct posterior restorations are: post-operative sensitivity, bad contact point, difficulty of achieving a nice occlusal anatomy, and a short life of the restorations.

Adhesives are evolving and are the key of success of our restorations.

This lecture will develop the following topics:
1- Choosing and using modern adhesives and composites, with evidence-based tips and tricks to increase the performance of our restorations

2- Restoring posterior teeth in a predictable way and making a beautiful occlusal anatomy in a fast and easy way (FMT technique), without the need of an extensive adjustment of the occlusion

Prof. Dr. Louis Hardan

Prof. Louis Hardan, former head of the restorative and esthetic department at Saint Joseph University Beirut-Lebanon (2013-2019), actually director of the master program since 2019, coordinator of the prosthetic and esthetic master since 2021 and member of the digital, virtual and AI department since 2023.

He graduated dentistry in 1989 and continued his post-doctoral education at Saint Joseph University; he obtained a certificate for basic science in 1993, he completed his specialization in restorative and esthetic dentistry in 1995, and completed his PhD in oral biology andmaterials (Esthetic and Prosthetic Dentistry) in 2009.

He was an active member of the Lebanese Dental Association board (LDA) (2006-2009) and was assigned as a general secretary of the LDA in 2009.

At the present, he is a full professor at Saint Joseph University (restorative and esthetic department and digital, virtual and AI department) and owns a private practice in his home town Byblos.

He is an honorary and active international Styleitaliano member and the scientific director of this group. He is the Country Chairperson for Lebanon of the European Society of Cosmetic Dentistry (ESCD) since 2020, ESCD certified member, ESCD board member and international affairs chairperson since 2021.

He is the inventor of Smile Lite MDP (Smile Line, Switzerland) a device to take high quality dental pictures with a mobile phone (Winner of the best of class technology award for 2017 in USA and Best product award for 2022 in Europe) and Posterior Misura (LM instrument) an instrument for direct posterior composites.

Prof. Hardan has many publications and he is a guest editor in many indexed, high impact factor and citescoreinternational journals, wrote chapters in many international dental books and author of a book entitled: “Protocols for Mobile Dental Photography with auxiliary lighting” Quintessence Publishing 2020, and has given several international lectures and courses on esthetic, restorative dentistry, digital dentistry and mobile dental photography.

Zeynep Serpil Gönen

She graduated from Hacettepe University in 2002 with first place. She established his own laboratory in 2004. After occlusion training from Christoph Zobler in 2010, she reshaped her professional life. Thanks to the special trainings he attended every year in Innsbruck, Austria between 2010-2016, he completed her master's education of the Slavicek concept. In 2017-2018, she studied the OBI concept in Spain and she received training in Germany. In 2018, she completed the NAT concept training at the master level and became an International trainer and is leading the New Generation trainers of the NAT concept, which was included after her. She also carries out studies on adapting the concept to digital. He continues his professional life with both dental production and trainings in his workshop, which is also an international training center in Fethiye. 

Developing software and production technologies have succeeded in raising our standards professionally. As technicians, it is very important to keep up with this developing technology. Erkut Koca was born on December 12, 1992 in Samsun. He completed his entire education in Istanbul. He completed his dental technician department, which he started at high school, at Istanbul University. He worked as a technical trainer at Medipol University, working in different positions in laboratories working with digital workflow. Today, he continues his restoration production and trainings in his own workshop and training center, and continues to be the official trainer of some international companies.
